SBS is the condition seen in a building when more than 20% of its occupants complain about symptoms that affect their health or well-being, but these symptoms and conditions disappear when they leave the building and no disease can be clinically diagnosed. However, in many cases these conditions can give rise to more serious diseases over time. 20% is a subjective figure, as there will always be individuals who complain about the quality of the environment they occupy.
